The New York Times is reporting that women in their 20s with steady jobs in big cities — New York, Chicago, Boston and Minneapolis — make more money than their male counterparts. This is fabulous news, but unfortunately these same women are finding it hard to date men who earn less than they do.

From the article:

They would say, “Wow, you’re so sophisticated,” she recalled. A first look at her apartment, a smartly appointed studio in a full-service building in TriBeCa, would only reinforce the impression. “They wouldn’t want me to see their apartments,” she said, because they lived in cramped surroundings in distant quadrants of Brooklyn or the Bronx.

One of them, she said, finally just came out and said it. “Look,” Ms. Hess recalled him saying, “it makes me really uncomfortable that you make more money than me. I’m going to put that out on the table and try to get over it.”

But he never got over it, she said.

“The sad thing is that I really liked the guy,” she said. “If that hadn’t been an issue with him, we’d probably still be dating.”

Why are so many men threatened when the woman is the breadwinner in the relationship? Tami can be my sugar momma any day!

What does it take to build a business with more than $30 million in sales before you turn 30? Start with a great idea and a penchant for risk, and give your customers a voice.

That’s what Jacob DeHart, 26, and Jake Nickell, 28 did with their online T-shirt design company, Threadless.com. The pair built an online community that allows users from all corners of the world submit t-shirt designs that are voted on, and then made available for sale. Since their launch seven years ago, every design printed has completely sold out.

Retailers like Target and Urban Outfitters have taken notice but the two preferred to stay on their own. Says Nickell, “We were just another product to put in their stores, and that’s really not the way we view ourselves.”

With more than half a million registered users and growing, the voice of Threadless community is the only marketing they’ll ever need.

There is a new golden couple making headlines around the world. You may remember her as Posh from the early nineties hot girl band Spice Girls. His name is David Beckham, the most famous soccer player ever in the history of the sport. When they married they became Posh n’ Becks and perhaps the most famous and beloved couple throughout the world.

This couple knows what it means to be fabulously wealthy and loved by the entire world a few times over. David Beckham is the highest paid and most famous soccer player ever. With their two kids, Brooklyn and Romeo, Posh and Becks live in a $4 million dollar home that Britain has dubbed Beckingham Palace. And this is just one of their homes.

Their wedding, costing $800,000 actually made this dynamic duo money – as OK! Magazine paid them 1.5 million dollars for the publishing rights. But their lavish lifestyle didn’t end with happily ever after. Together they own millions of dollars worth of jewelry, clothing – and a total of ten cars ranging from Bentleys to Aston Martins to four Ferraris. Yes, four. Their combined net worth is close to $100 million dollars – and still counting.

And yet, besides the wealth and the glamour – Victoria and David have become the darlings of the world. Parents name their children after them, Buddhist temples have erected gold statues in the likeness of David Beckham and the couple has usurped the royal family not only in earning power but in world-wide interest.

How many 17 year old high school dropouts do you know earn $70,000 a month? Probably not any I’m guessing, so let me introduce you to one. Her name is Ashley Qualls, a teenage entrepreneur from Detroit, who has made an amazing amount of money from selling MySpace layouts on her website Whateverlife.

Fastcompany recently published an extensive article on Ashley, which talks about her recent rejection of a $1.5 million buyout offer.

According to Google Analytics, Whateverlife attracts more than 7 million individuals and 60 million page views a month. That’s a larger audience than the circulations of Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and CosmoGirl! magazines combined. Although Web-site rankings vary with the methodology, Quantcast, a popular source among advertisers, ranked Whateverlife.com a staggering No. 349 in mid-July out of more than 20 million sites.

Not bad for a girl who doesn’t even have her driver’s license yet!

To obtain the lifestyle that only bling can bring, you need to be able to stand out and be noticed, but often time there’s someone more famous and popular stealing your limelight. So what can you do while you’re stuck being in the shadow? Neil from Quicksprout offers the following tips:

Networking
If you want to get to know tons of “powerful” people, one of the easiest ways to do this is to leech onto someone who is well-known. Well-known or famous people usually know other people who have a similar status. Hanging out together can get you associated with them and really help you make inroads with other big people. The trick is to always make sure you join in on conversations and make sure these guys know you are there. Just make sure your wit is drawing attention and not your obnoxious behavior.

Association
In most cases, the person’s shadow you are in will have a good reputation in a specific sector (hopefully the same sector you are in). For example, Darren Rowse is seen as a professional blogger and if you are always seen with him people might start to think that you are a professional blogger as well. Granted, you won’t been seen as more of an expert as the person who’s shadow you are in, but it is a good start for your personal brand.

Learning
You may think that there isn’t anything else you could learn in your field, but this is far from the truth. Being in someone else’s shadow gives you a sideline view of all of their accomplishments and failures. What’s better than learning from someone else’s experiences and replicating all the things that would benefit you?

Standing out
If you can stand out when seen in someone else shadow then you can stand out in almost any situation. If you are shy, this could be a great way to practice. The bottom line is that you are less likely to succeed if you just sit in the sidelines and watch everyone pass you by, so learn to stand out in this type of scenario and you’re all set.

Don’t you hate it when you’re waiting in the two hour long dinner buffet line at the Bellagio and some so called “VIP” guest strolls right in? I used to hate it as well, until I was the VIP that didn’t have to wait in line or pay for my food.

So how did I manage to get comped? The key is to join the casino’s players club. Every casino has a different players club program, so be sure to stop by their information desk and ask what they have to offer. After you’ve found the casino you enjoy playing and staying at, stick with it. For Tami and I, we absolutely love the Venetian. It’s a beautiful casino with a nice shopping mall and it’s just a short walk to our other favorites; Bellagio, Caesars Palace and Wynn. Not to mention, the Venetian is home to the Tao, one of the most exclusive night clubs in Vegas, and boy do we love to party!

After you’ve received your players card, be sure to use it every time you’re at the tables or slots. Using the players card gives you a “rating” as the casino tracks the amount of money you’re spending. As a basic rule, the more money you spend, the better the comps get. Tami usually plays a couple hundred at most in slots, and I’m usually at the crap tables with no more than a thousand bucks. Even as light gamblers, Venetian Players Club has given us everything from comped spa treatments and show tickets, to buffets and hotel suites.

In fact, they just sent us a free weekend stay for October and November, and you best bet that we’ll be out here having a crazy fun time in Sin City. So next time you’re in Vegas, don’t be the chump waiting in line or paying for your stay. Get your players club card, and start being a VIP!
